Comfort Zones

There they are.

Those little boxes we create for ourselves.

They’re safe.

They’re predictable.

They’re easy.

They come in all shapes and sizes.

They belong to us.

But every now and again some crazy person comes along and opens a window – even just cracks a window – in our little box.

The outside world enters in and we must figure out how to adjust.

For each of us those boundaries are different.

For each of us that open window provides different challenges or opportunities.

This past Saturday two members of my family busted through a window on their own and stepped into the unknown.

Not only did they survive but they had a FABULOUS time doing it!

My honey has an enormous stigma against public pools of any kind.  My BIL suggested the waterpark for the 3 boys.  My honey agreed because my BIL’s house is small for 3 boys who need to get some energy out.  It was pushing 100 degrees outside.  It was time to get them cool.

So, my honey took a giant leap and let my boys enter a public pool for the first time ever in their lives.  Not only did they enter but my honey did too.  How could you not when the waterpark looks like this:

For those of you who have hung out here for awhile you know how much my sensational Eli prefers to avoid water.  This was a giant leap for him too.
But peer pressure is a beautiful thing!
Everywhere his cousin went he went.  He went under mushroom waterfalls where the water covered his head and rolled down his face.  He braved the kiddie waterslide and was excited to learn that the water was shallow enough at the bottom that all he had to do was stand up when he got to the bottom of the slide.  No going under water was ever required.
And because this awesome waterpark catered to the littles in our lives we were all able to relax and have the time of our lives!
So thanks Indianapolis for helping my family build some new rooms onto their comfort zones!  It’s sure to delight us for years to come!

About Brotherly Love

I am a mom, partner, teacher and a lover of life. I have two fabulous boys who define my life as I know it. One of my children has been diagnosed with a sensory processing disorder, Asperger's and anxiety disorder. I blog as much about him as I do about my life and the lives of my immediate family.

I love the way you framed this story! Little boxes indeed. Here's to more windows and the occasional well-placed door! Looks like your brood had a wonderful day :)Caitlinwww.welcome-to-normal.com
