Out With A Bang

Back to vacation now.

After my BIL and nephew left for home we were alone at the cabin.  One more day of bliss.  No one to answer to but ourselves.

We hiked in the woods.  We ate Tootsie Pops.  We swam in the pool one last time.

We cleaned and policed the yard.  I mowed the grass – front and back lawns – all the while reminding myself that we really should save up for a riding mower for up there that works!

We cleaned the cabin.  We tucked away s’mores ingredients for the next impromptu cabin visit.

Saturday morning we packed up the car and traveled home.

And, while there was laundry galore to be tackled, it was oh so good to be home.  It was our house, our rules, our things.  I sniffed most articles of clothing as they went into the washer to get the final cabin campfire smell all to myself.  I couldn’t smell everything – there were 2 sweaty little boys that participated in this vacation too!

The boys were excited to return to their Wii.  They do very well without their video games but it was just what they needed after the long, monotonous drive home.

We attacked the refrigerator and pantry in an effort to make a list to replace all missing items.  We took turns going to various stores to replenish the quickly dwindling food supply.

We relaxed in the comforts of our home watching the cable TV that you do come to miss after a while.

Sunday evening we loaded up and headed toward downtown to watch our Toledo Mud Hens play some kick ass baseball.  This adventure was prompted by the boys’ karate school.  It was so wonderful to have an outing with so many awesome people.  The boys loved going to the game with their karate friends.

The boys got to witness a grand slam walk off home run as they waited in the line to run the bases after the game.  The crowd went crazy.  It was a moment of bonding around the stadium.

The line began to move and the boys inched closer to their dream of running “big league” bases.  They motored faster than I’ve ever seen them move on their tiny little t-ball field as the rounded and touched each of the bases.  Eli even ended with a cocky little jump onto home plate.

That's Eli and Keegan running full speed across 1st base - both are in their navy blue Karate shirts.

And the finish to our delightful vacation?

About Brotherly Love

I am a mom, partner, teacher and a lover of life. I have two fabulous boys who define my life as I know it. One of my children has been diagnosed with a sensory processing disorder, Asperger's and anxiety disorder. I blog as much about him as I do about my life and the lives of my immediate family.
