Without Further Delay

I bring you a happy post!

It happens every now and again.

Things seem to dump all at once and I decide to throw myself a pity party.

About the time I light the candles on the cake something happens to smack me in the face and make me realize that I don’t have it quite as bad as I think I do.

I blow out those stupid ass candles and pitch the cake – pity cake doesn’t taste all that great anyway!

And when I turn around to begin my journey forward again I see this:

My little hero whose super power is to make me laugh and smile.

Eli often is the subject of blog fodder around here simply because he is the focus of a lot of our attention.

Keegan is always waiting, sometimes impatiently, in the wings.  Just hoping to be the subject of mommy’s little internet journal.

So, this one’s for you babe!

This one’s for that grin you get and the twinkle in your eye when you’re about to do something silly.  Like how you pretended to be injured when we played soccer in the yard the other day just so you could get me to move away from the ball so you could move in and steal it!

This one’s for all those mornings when you snuggle up to me in bed and tell me I shouldn’t go to work today.  I should stay home and play lazy town with you.  It’ll be much more fun you plead.  I totally agree with you sweetie, but the checkbook doesn’t.

This one’s for watching you eat a sandwich one layer at a time.  It amazes me that if I put all the separate pieces on a plate you would still assemble the sandwich just to take it apart layer by layer to eat it.

This one’s for your new-found love of thumb wars.  Too bad for me that you’re exceptionally good at it and your tiny little thumb beats mine more often than I care to admit!

This one’s for the hugs and the snuggles that you still enjoy giving me.  I hear all to often about boys not wanting to be around their moms as they get older.  I know you’ll get there too.  For now I’ll take all I can get.

This one’s for that infectious smile and giggle that you have.  No matter how upset I may be or how bad of a mood I’m in, you flash that smile and I can’t help but melt.  I find myself smiling and giggling right along with you!

This one’s for your insane love of all things chocolate or candy.  One of my biggest happy thoughts is your 6 week run at thanking God for chocolate and candy each night before you went to bed.  Of course I never cease to find the irony in the fact that I couldn’t eat chocolate when I was pregnant with you because it made me horribly sick.  That was a very long 9 months son!

Finally, this one’s for the miracle of you.  You gave me a very hard time during that 9 month pregnancy but you stuck it out to the beautiful end.  I will always be grateful for that.  Hearing your cry and looking into your eyes for the first time certainly ranks high among my happy thoughts.  My life became so much more rich and complete on that early April morning.

Your role in this family often requires you to wait backstage while your brother shares his monologue.  Please know that your role is no less important.  Your ability to make us smile and laugh is one of the most important contributions to this family.

Thank you, my youngest big boy, for taking on the duties without more than your share of whining and fussing.  You are amazing and you make us amazing for knowing you!

About Brotherly Love

I am a mom, partner, teacher and a lover of life. I have two fabulous boys who define my life as I know it. One of my children has been diagnosed with a sensory processing disorder, Asperger's and anxiety disorder. I blog as much about him as I do about my life and the lives of my immediate family.
